Reference Architecture

The OpenElectric Reference Architecture

OpenElectric has created a multi-tiered Cloud native carrier class* digital infrastructure to support new applications, and tight integration of DER into power system operations.
 

  • Microservice** Applications and extensions can be developed and deployed by any participating organizations, leveraging Foundation layer APIs but independent of Mesh and Cloud Tiers.
     

  • Domain infrastructure tier to provide reusable energy domain services and data stores needed for regulated infrastructure services and for non-regulated energy and e-mobility services.
     

  • Mesh infrastructure tier that describes the Cloud and IoT infrastructure that define the scaling, networking, security and communications between services.
     

  • Cloud Platform tier that leverages the common capabilities from the major Cloud Service Providers.
